Announces a Call for Research Abstracts for the
2008 Annual Meeting
Americas Cultural Kaleidoscope: Challenges & Opportunties
Lafayette, LA

The current theme “America’s Cultural Kaleidoscope: Challenges & Opportunities” focuses on the life skills needed by individuals and families. Abstracts will be peer-reviewed in accordance with the following criteria: (1) significance or usefulness of the research; (2) soundness of the research design; (3) accuracy of interpretation of the research results; (4) accuracy/relevancy of the implications and/or conclusions; and (5) clarity and organization of writing.

Abstracts must be original unpublished research, not currently under consideration for publication. Acceptance for presentation, either poster or oral, obligates the author to register and attend the LAFCS Annual Convention.

Format for Abstract Submission:
The abstract cannot exceed 750 words. The title of the presentation, the name of the author(s), and the name of the author(s) institution (following each name, in cases of multiple authors) must be included with the abstract submission. The abstract should include the following sections in the order given: Purpose, Procedures, Findings, and Implications.

LAFCS will sponsor a student competition to recognize excellence in undergraduate and graduate student research. Students will follow the same general format as other authors. Additional requirements are noted below.

Additional Information for the Student Research Competition
For Student Submissions ONLY, the submission form must include the name of the faculty advisor. Submissions should also meet the following guidelines: (1) Research must be based on a class project, thesis, or dissertation; (2) Research must have been the primary responsibility of the student; (3) Abstract must be submitted from students who are enrolled in a program; (4) Student receiving the award must attend the 2008 Annual Conference to make a presentation of the research; and (5) Student will be recognized at the time the research is presented and at one of the general sessions.
